"Agreement signed for additional financing"
Pudhu Vaazhvu Project works for the empowerment and poverty reduction among the poorest families in the State. The Project gives special focus on the differently abled, vulnerable, tribals and other marginal sections of the society. Pudhu Vaazhvu Project is a key poverty alleviation project of the Government and is now under implementation in 70 backward Blocks in 16 districts of the State with project cost of Rs.717.00 crores. The Project is implemented since October 2006.
Based on the exemplary performance of the Scheme, Government of Tamil Nadu sought additional finance from World Bank for expansion of Pudhu Vaazhvu Project to 50 additional backward Blocks in 10 more districts benefitting a total of 9.6 lakh poor households in the State. World Bank has approved the additional financing proposal and the agreement for additional finance for Pudhu Vaazhvu Project with total outlay of Rs.950.00 crores was signed on 23.12.2010 in the presence of Chief Secretary to the Government, Ms. S. Malathy, I.A.S., , at Secretariat.
The agreement was signed by the Country Director of the World Bank Thiru. Roberto Zagha on behalf of World Bank and Thiru.Venu Rajamony on behalf of the Government of India. Principal Secretary RD & PR Dept., Thiru.K.Allaudin, I.A.S., and the Project Director Pudhu Vaazhvu Project, Thiru. Dheeraj Kumar, I.A.S., signed the agreement on behalf of the State Government and the Project. Principal Secretary Finance, Thiru. K. Shanmugam, I.A.S., and officials from World Bank and Government were present during the occasion.
